Book Recommendation: “Beyond the Gender Binary” - JUN 18, 2020 (Patreon Archive)

When we say Black Lives Matter, it has to be All Black Lives.

I highly recommend Alok's new book “Beyond the Gender Binary”. It is incredibly insightful and educational. There are so many intersections between gender identity and anti-racism. It’s about being seen exactly as who we are without compromising our existence for what “society standards” expect us to be. These boxes that were created to keep us trapped in, they can’t possibly hold all the potential that exists within us. Why does society constantly feel the need to create boxes to put people in them, externally or internally? My thought is these boxes were created to hold power over people, to control how we think about others and ourselves. Why? Because white supremacy and colonization. These "white few" decided something and then they pillaged and dominated others to spread their "way of living". Now why would we continue perpetuating only these "white few's" narrow concept of what humans are actually fully capable of in what it means to be whole? The short answer is we shouldn't. We shouldn't let these old "values" dictate anything anymore.

I encourage everyone to respect everyone’s identities and to learn more about how to support trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and gender fluid people.

There are MANY resources out there. I found the National Center for Transgender Equality to be very informative and ways you can take action too.
