Test Knitter of the Month - April
Each month I feature a test knitter from one (or more) of my designs!
My hope for a part of this blog is to feature the knitters who spend their time helping me execute a hand knitting pattern. Test knitting, especially garments, are a critical part of the design process and I wouldn’t be able to do it without their valuable feedback.
It’s been important for me to connect with knitters, and people in general, on a human level. My hope is that these introductions will help us connect to others that are more than what we see on the surface.
Test Knitter of the Month - April Feature: Emma
How do you identify? I'm Emma (she/her). I was born in England and moved to Canada when I was pretty small, and I'm biracial, though I hold a lot of white-passing privilege. Married with 3 kids, and I live in Ontario, Canada.
How many years have you been knitting? What’s your knitting origin story? I started knitting almost 20 years ago. A coworker of mine when I was working retail came in wearing a giant, orange, mohair scarf and I fell in love with it. She lent me her Knitting for Dummies book and the first thing I made was a neon green scarf. The second thing was a scarf with an intarsia cable just to see how it worked. I haven't stopped since.
Which pattern did you test knit? What size, if garment, and yarns did you use? I've tested a couple things, the Eleven Twelve Sweater (size 4, using Hello Stella yarn), and the Wavelength Sweater (size 3, using Harrisville Nightshades and Duck Duck Wool Merino DK as the contrasting colour).
What other making superpowers do you have? I sew, cross stitch, embroider, needle felt, crochet, punch needle... Pretty much any fibre/needle art I've come across, I've tried. Not great at spinning, though.
Where can readers find your makes? I'm on IG (@editrixemma), and Twitter too (but that's mostly just yelling about our local government).
What other aspects of life are you passionate about besides making? I am an editor, so reading is a huge part of my life, both professionally and personally. I don't really have anything to promote; if you follow me on insta my account is full of making and craft beer and randomness.
